:: designers' whims ::
I am very sure that every single graphic designer in this world has had a 'unique' client or horrible experience at the printers. Some are so hilarious that we tell them to our friends. Most are just simply too horrific to be remembered.
My worst experience is actually come from my own family. Someone in my family order a total makeover of the company identity, so happily I created some sketches for logos and business cards. He gave some significant inputs and gladly I created new designs. The logo was chosen and we moved on to the business card. The choice was obvious from the start so that's it! We're finished! I cannot believe my own eyes when he presented the stickers and notepads of the new logo: It was modified from the original approved design and it looks extremely bad!! Not only the whole concept was gone, and to make it worse, they were printed badly by a cheap printshop. I screamed to the top of my head immediately after I saw those products. Nobody saw anything wrong with the modified logo except me and my partner. Everytime I saw the stickers I feel like throwing up. The business card has no problem at first, but suddenly he approached me and ask me why the card is black, where's the other phone number and so on. And he showed me the card he ACTUALLY like, and it was not something that needed to be designed! I can only sighed and swear to myself that this will be the last time I accept orders from family member. I just hope they don't tell people that those modified things were created by us! Bad taste kills great design, really.
